Phily Traynor
Scored Kilmore's goal against Banbridge Town.
A much
changed Kilmore team bowed out of the Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
However, it took the controversial dismissal of Niall Murray in the
43rd minute to turn the game in Banbridge’s favour.
Kilmore, still smarting from their Border Cup Final defeat by Sport
& Leisure last Monday made five changes with Michael Murphy, Mark
Miskelly, Niall Murray, Chris Perry & Ryan Adler all given starting
roles.
The first 15 minutes was pretty even with both teams playing some nice
football before Banbridge took a 17th minute lead.
It didn’t take Kilmore long to get back on level terms and 3 minutes
later Philip Traynor equalised with a spectacular overhead kick.
The visitors were now in control with John Young, Michael Murphy and
Gary Kennedy winning loads of possession & they kept Ryan Adler
and Phily Traynor busy with a good supply of ball.
Kilmore
were then hit with a sucker punch in the 37th minute when the home side
took the lead following a well worked corner.
Things went from bad to worse for Kilmore when Niall Murray received
his marching orders from the referee for using foul and abusive language
towards the home supports after they had verbally abused him.
Just before the break Chris Perry almost made it 2-2 when he hit the
post with a stinging shot after good work from Traynor.
Ten minutes into the second half Phily Traynor finished a superb run
by creating a chance for John Young but he shot over the top.
Despite being down to only 10 men, Kilmore were calling the shots &
with 60 minutes gone John Young had another shot well saved by the home
goalkeeper.
Chris Perry was out of luck again in the 79th minute when his dipping
shot from 25 yards that crashed of the woodwork.
Two minutes later Phily Traynor was desperately unlucky when he shot
narrowly wide after another sizzling run.
Banbridge rode their luck and weathered the storm before making the
game safe in the 81st minute with the 3rd goal.
Kilmore refused to give up and Gary Kennedy hit the side netting in
the 90th minute after some enterprising play.
